Y’all this week has been great. Our oldest turned six and we attend a military event that just made for a great family day. The post for today was suppose to be about my final phase of the ottoman transformation. But, last night I stumbled upon a story that I’m sure most of you already know about, and I feel like the last person on earth to know. I was just extremely touched by this story and I know that you will be too.
I’m not really sure how I stumbled upon this story because I’m not a news watcher and the only social media accounts I follow are mainly home décor related. But, I’m glad I landed on the beautiful God filled story of Johnny Grant and his extremely God fearing devoted wife who both live in our area, Raleigh, North Carolina.
Johnny Grant began his military career as a Navy Seal in 2007. In 2017, he was stationed at Ft. Bragg in North Carolina as a combat medic instructor. While in Raleigh, North Carolina one evening Grant rushed to offer medical assistance to a fire located in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina. While on the way to the fire he was in a tragic car accident and suffered a major brain injury called Diffuse Axonal Injury. He had fallen into a deep coma and the doctors were unsure he would survive. After 61 days he finally woke up and he was dependent on everyone for his continuous survival. He was unable to eat or even stand on his own.
His wife, Laura, is my kind of gal. She is a Pilates instructor of 15 years and God’s grace naturally beams off of her. After the car accident she quit instructing and devoted her Pilates efforts to gain back Johnny’s strength. In some of her videos on Instagram you can tell she is strong and you can see the focal point in her eyes, the focus she received from God to help heal her husband. She said it best in one of her online interviews, “As dark as it is, not being able to communicate, him and I, on an earthly level like he can’t gesture to me, he couldn’t speak to me, he couldn’t write to me, he couldn’t do anything we had to CONNECT ON SOUL LEVEL!” Wow y’all, soul level?
What intrigues me about the story the most is the Calling she has been given to help heal her husband through his new beginning. And, she is doing that through strengthening exercises with Pilates and compassionate faith. Johnny is still learning to walk again for the first time, speak, and write on his own. But, just scrolling through her Instagram he has come a long way since 2017.
I really wanted to share this inspiring story with you because Veterans have a special place in my heart and the deep love Laura has for God and her husband. I think everyone could benefit hearing a story like that. She is still in the storm of it all, but her light is shinning through the rough. If you have a chance follow along their story @laurabpilates.
I will see you around here next week with some boy room décor.
Y’all have an awesome weekend! It’s going to be a beautiful one!
